The Pearpoint P374 is a portable video inspection system that allows for safe and easy inspection and reporting in hazardous environments. Intrinsically safe, the equipment is incapable of releasing enough thermal or electric energy to cause an explosion or fire in high-risk environments. Equipped with an explosion-proof camera and the latest technology, the unit offers enhanced safety and faultless inspections. Pearpoint’s P374 IS is an intrinsically safe Pushrod Sewer Camera System certified to EEX ia IIC T6 for Zone 0 Hazardous environments.
Perapoint’s P374: Benefits & Specifications
The P374 is a fully integrated inspection system, featuring a high-resolution camera, semi-rigid rod, LCD video monitor, power supply, and more. It can travel down pipes of up to 61 meters (200 feet). Compact and lightweight, it ranks high on the portability and feasibility scale. Pearpoint’s P374 IS is an intrinsically safe pushrod system certified to EEX ia IIC T6 for Zone 0 Hazardous environments such as vessels or pipework within the chemical and petrochemical industries, landfill venting systems, natural gas supply infrastructure, etc. The surface equipment is IP55 rated allowing this system to be used in most types of weather conditions. The P374 IS system is compact and fully integrated making it very easy to transport around.

Safe Solution for Hazardous Environment Inspection
P374 is designed to carry out inspections in Zone 0 Hazardous environments characterized by the presence of explosive gas, vapors, or liquid continually or for a long time. The explosion-proof borescope camera can be safely used in Class I, Div 1, Gas Groups, ABCD, T6 Environments.
Examples of Zone 0 Environments
Some examples of Zone 0 Hazardous environments include landfill venting systems, gas pipes or gas supply infrastructures, pipework in the petrochemical industry, vessels and narrow equipment in the chemical industry.
High-Resolution Camera
The high-resolution, intrinsically safe color camera comes with a 44-degree viewing angle. It is fully immersible and operates through intrinsically safe low current supplied by a coiler. CMOS camera technology is used to minimize power consumption and maximize operating time. It must be noted that while the camera is waterproof and allows for wash-down cleaning, it is susceptible to damage by high-pressure water jet washing.
Adjustable Focus
The best part about the P374 explosion-proof camera is that the focus can be adjusted using the focusing tool that comes with the unit to get the sharpest image. However, it is not essential to adjust the camera for different pipe sizes every time as it has a certain depth of field. When set at very close proximity, the image on the screen is enlarged, allowing for close and careful inspection. This feature is particularly useful when inspecting surfaces for breaks, fractures, oxidization, etc.
Media Recorder
The gas pipe inspection camera allows for composite video input/out, meaning the system can be connected to a video recorder and is equipped with technology to play-back recorded media whenever required. This feature helps tremendously in close inspection as the inspection video can be replayed repeatedly on the integrated 6.4” LCD monitor to deduce accurate results.
Video Text Writer
The unit also features a video text-writer that automatically displays the date, time, and camera’s distance on the screen. A QWERTY keyboard is integrated for on-site text annotations. User-generated notes and text messages are visible on the screen. For faster text generation, users can employ 9 programmable user-defined fields.
Monitor Set-up Controls
Monitor set-up controls can be manipulated to achieve high-quality images on the screen. The easily-adjustable controls are situated on the side of the monitor. The knobs can be manipulated to adjust the brightness and color of the image. The hue adjustment option is available in NTSC units only. For best results, it is recommended to view the monitor straight as the image quality may decrease when the monitor is viewed from different angles.
Suitable for Diverse Climatic Conditions
Pearpoint’s portable, intrinsically safe inspection camera system can be used indoors and outdoors. It is fully waterproof and can carry out inspections in wet or high-moisture weather conditions. A built-in, retractable sun visor is also provided to help reduce the effects of sunlight on the LCD screen on sunny days. The P374 pipe inspection camera has an impressive working AMB temperature range from -10°C to +40°C.
Varying Skid Sets
P374 explosion-proof camera inspection system comes with three different skid sets, including the following.
- For Clean Pipes: 100 mm Radial Brush Skids/ 50mm Delrin Skids
- For Dirty Pipes: 100 mm Axis Brush Skids (HC3731001-1)
- Live Gas Insertion: 100mm Axis Brush Skids (HC3735001-1)
The Bottom Line
The user-friendly design of the intrinsically safe inspection camera ensures quick and easy manipulation for close inspections. The unit is easy to prepare for use, and the controls are simple. Moreover, it is fully integrated and weighs only 46lbs. Hence, users can move it easily from one site to another to safely perform high-standard inspections in Zone 0 environments. In addition, there are smaller diameter borescopes that offer articulation and are Class I Div II Certified Borescopes like the Freedom View FVVS680 . This system is also available in a Law Enforcement kit that offers a gas tank opener, window wedge and flexible guide tube.
Of course if you are not performing inspections that contain a hazardous environment you can always chose to use an industrial borescope that doesn’t offer any certifications.
