Sewer inspection cameras are a critical tool of a sewer cleaning contractor’s arsenal. The device allows the pipe repair crew to get a first-hand look at the plumbing system. Pipe inspection cameras allow the repair personnel to check out the internal components of the pipe.
With a pipe inspection camera, the plumbing crew can know about the obstacles, such as grease, roots, wipes, or other items that are clogging the pipe. The information can save a lot of time and cost involved in diagnosing problems with the unit.
Just like any device, pipe inspection cameras require a lot of care. Here are some maintenance tips for the pipe inspection cameras to protect your investment.
General Maintenance Tips
1. Check the Cords
You need to check the pipe camera cord cords to ensure that it is in good condition. Check for missing ground prongs and damaged switches before use. The cable should also be inspected for any type of damage. Any damaged parts should be replaced or repaired.
2. Keep the Camera Clean
The camera should be kept clean to extend life. Keep a soft rag with you and wipe the probe after you pull it out from the sewer line. The lens of the camera needs to be cleaned after every use. Cleaning the camera is important as it will prevent a buildup of grease, oil, and other residues that may damage the camera lens.
Fingerprints and dirt can seriously degrade the quality of the camera. You can use an isopropyl alcohol solution to clean the optical surface of the camera. Take care to clean the distal tip glass where the probe is attached. Wipe the surface where the pipe inspection device’s probe is attached.
3. Avoid Using Harsh Chemicals
Avoid using an oil cleanser when cleaning the lens. This is important to prevent damage to the camera lens. A dry cloth should be used to gently wipe the head of the camera and remove dirt and debris. You can use a soft linen cloth or lens cleaning paper to clean the lens. Never use harsh solvents or cleaners to clean the camera as it can damage the lens.
A blower can be used to blowing away dust from the lens. But you should avoid poking inside the camera to avoid damage.
4. Caring for Portable Inspection Camera Batteries
Handheld camera batteries should be charged fully before each use. But you should never overcharge the battery as there is a risk of a battery explosion. The batteries should also not be exposed to high temperatures.
Always store the batteries in a cool and dry place when not in use. Remove the battery from the device as the chemicals inside the battery could leak damaging the equipment.
